Travel Trade Update – Sept 24, 2009

During the latter part of August, Doug Treleaven, Sales Manager, Travel Trade, visited key tour operators based on the East Coast, in conjunction with colleagues from Tourism British Columbia and Tourism Vancouver. Sales calls were made to 15 operators and destination training sessions were given to a total of 167 reservations agents.  

 

As well, on August 28, 2009, Tourism Victoria participated in Discover BC, an annual event sponsored by Tourism BC. At the event a 15 minute ‘new product’ presentation was made to 82 Receptive Tour Operators and airline representatives. Six tourism regions from around the province presented, including Vancouver, Whistler and Victoria. Victoria’s presentation was very well received, with particular interest in the growing amount of non-stop service available through Victoria International Airport allowing for additional itinerary planning.

Sales Update – Meetings & Incentive Travel – Aug 12, 2009

Kelly Pitt, Sales Manager, M&IT and Heather McGillivray, Director of Sales recently attended the MPI-World Education Congress, a four-day conference comprised of educational sessions and a 2-day tradeshow component. Tourism Victoria joined the Canadian Tourism Commission booth along with Tourism Vancouver, Tourism Whistler and other Canadian destinations. Tourism Victoria was able to connect with potential clients, even with a decrease in attendance -approximately 2,800 delegates (5,000 in 2008). This conference will be held in Vancouver in 2010, providing pre/post and other sponsorship opportunities to Victoria.

Kelly Pitt also recently attended Trailblazers in Toronto. The selected buyers at this unique educational marketplace are senior employees of North America’s most qualified incentive and meeting planning companies and have the ability to influence site selection with corporate clients. Tourism Victoria had 25 client appointments and met with 18 incentive buyers during this three day networking event. All 25 clients requested additional information on Victoria; five clients very interested in visiting Victoria on a Familiarization Tour or Site Inspection and one client has a possible lead for Victoria.

Sales Update – Travel Trade – Aug 12, 2009

Travel Trade, Sales Manager, Michelle Edington attended BC Downunder 2009 in Sydney, Australia. BC Downunder is Tourism BC’s major biennial road-show in Australia. It is comprised of three key events; Travel Agent Training Evening, Business 2 Business Marketplace and Canada Day Media Lunch, targeting travel agents, media, and tour operators from both Australia and New Zealand. Tourism Victoria had pre-scheduled appointments with 21 tour operators and trained over 200 travel agents at the show.
From one-on-one meetings with tour operators, Tourism Victoria developed a leads list to help generate business for our members.

2010 Approved Accommodation – Jul 29, 2009

Tourism British Columbia is pleased to announce that the 2010 Approved Accommodation Program is now open for enrollment!  
NEW for 2010: Online listings can now include a free video embed to bring their listing to life.
The Benefits of Enrolling: Accommodation businesses gain significant exposure through enrolling in the HelloBC Listings Program. In order to participate in Tourism BC’s many other marketing programs, such as Welcome the World and the Reservations Program, as well as acquiring highway signage, you must be enrolled in the HelloBC Listings Program.    
Enrollment Deadline: To be included in the printed 2010 Approved Accommodation Guide, properties must enroll on or before August 31, 2009.   
How to Enroll: Go to www.tourismbc.net.  To make the process easier, have your 2009 listing, username and password handy.

cruise3sixty – Jul 15, 2009

In June 2010, Vancouver, BC will welcome the cruise industry’s premier tradeshow, cruise3sixty.  cruise3sixty is the industry’s “must-attend” cruise conference and the premier event for the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
 
Tourism British Columbia and partners would like to extend a special offer for Canadian suppliers to participate in the show. We encourage anyone interested in the cruise and touring market to exhibit at this show as it is a very good opportunity to showcase Canadian cruise and related products. 1,400 travel agents attended the 2009 conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
